Catamaran Catches Fire in Altoona Lagoon, St. Croix
Video footage shared by Lioness Sport Fishing, who was on the water at the time, shows thick smoke billowing from the vessel as flames consumed the majority of the boat. Strong winds appeared to fuel the fire, intensifying the blaze. The footage was publicly posted on Facebook, capturing the dramatic scene.
While no official information has been released regarding the cause of the fire, the number of people onboard, or potential injuries, social media reports suggest that an individual on board was able to jump to safety. Local authorities have not yet confirmed whether marine or fire services responded to the incident, nor whether the boat was fully destroyed or extinguished before sinking.
Altoona Lagoon, though a protected area, has limited access for emergency vessels and firefighting efforts, which may have impacted the response to the fire.
